
Produced in the context of Professor Lisa Iwamoto's (IwamotoScott Architecture) studio 'Open Air School' | Fall 2021
Focusing primarily on form, this project explores the manipulation of a singular volume through pushing and pulling operations in order to provide moments for light and air within a dense urban fabric, a problem that has become especially important to resolve in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. These operations on the volume follow existing site conditions, and begin with a large conical void in the heart of the form, which serves as a center for light and air, as well as a pragmatic gathering place for students. Important public programs, such as the gym and auditorium, continue to shape the volume through lofted conditions that also provide light and air.
